A primitive Polaroid 'camera' for birders, Mark uses abstract mark-making instead of photography to give bird watchers a visual record of their day’s experiences. Similar to how a pedometer works, the marks are generated by the birder’s motion (walking creates lines, stopping to observe a bird creates concentrated bleed spots, etc.) The hope is that these unique ‘records’ would be collected over time or shared with other birders in a community display to augment their existing documenting methods and more importantly spark conversations among them.

Mark is the LowTech portion of a two-part LowTech | HighTech project. Related images and information about the HighTech portion can be found here.
